As an Australian teacher in Switzerland for the last four years, it has been challenging to keep abreast of new programs and pedagogies that Australian teachers are using in their schools. Why become a linchpin? When you bring value to your work, you not only get more enjoyment out of it, and will notice that others begin to follow in your way, you will also show your boss or your boss’s boss how important you are, leading to more opportunities and growth.

On a sunny and warm summer day, two members of the emJoy team met up with a small group of enthusiastic people and talked about education, play and the joy of learning and teaching. I am referring to the first emJoy seminar in Athens; it took place on Saturday the 6th of July at the cozy and welcoming space of the bookstore Books & Beans.
Share your experiences, return to your classroom enthused by ideas that have instilled joy within educational experiences in schools throughout Europe, and spark joy in your teaching! Meet interesting educators from across Europe and see how joy in learning can be introduced into every subject.

All my training took place in an institution, with the goal of implementing what I’ve learned within the four walls of a school. Meanwhile, there has always been this other teacher (nature), ready and waiting, beyond those walls to take on that teaching role and let children learn freely and with joy.

I am sure that the experiences during the Conference in Athens (EmJoy 2019) have the potential to offer an opportunity for valuable learning processes with the possibility for cooperation between presenters and participants from many educational cultures and countries.
